چکیده

In this paper, we propose a time-varying (TV) finite impulse response (FIR) equalizer for doubly-selective (timeand frequencyselective) channels. We use the basis expansion model (BEM) to approximate the doubly-selective channel and to design the TV FIR equalizer. This structure allows us to turn a large design problem into an equivalent small design problem, containing only the BEM coefficients of both the doubly-selective channel and the TV FIR equalizer. Focus is on the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) solution, but the zero-forcing (ZF) solution is also discussed. Comparisons with the linear block equalizer (LBE) are made. Through computer simulations we show that the performance of the MMSE TV FIR equalizer approaches the one of the MMSE LBE, while the design as well as the implementation complexity are much lower.

Channel Shortening for Doubly Selective Channels Using Teq, Mmse and Lms

In discrete multitone (DMT) transceivers an intelligent guard time sequence, called a cyclic prefix (CP), is inserted between the symbols to ensure that samples from one symbol do not interfere with the samples of another symbol. The length of the CP is determined by the length of the impulse response of the effective physical channel. Using a long CP reduces the throughput of the transceiver. ...

Estimation and Direct Equalization of Doubly Selective Channels

We propose channel estimation and direct equalization techniques for transmission over doubly selective channels. The doubly selective channel is approximated using the basis expansion model (BEM). Linear and decision feedback equalizers implemented by time-varying finite impulse response (FIR) filtersmay then be used to equalize the doubly selective channel, where the time-varying FIR filters ...

Time-varying FIR equalization of doubly-selective channels

Low-complexity Serial Equalization of Doubly-selective Channels

In this paper, we propose a serial equalizer for doubly-selective channels. We use a Basis Expansion Model (BEM) Finite Impulse Response (FIR) to model the doubly-selective channel and to design the serial equalizer. In contrast to our previous works, we decrease the modeling error of the BEM FIR by fitting the BEM FIR to the true doubly-selective channel over a time-window that is independent ...

Bandwidth Efficient Pilot Assisted Transmission over Doubly-Selective Wireless Fading Channels Using Superimposed Training

We propose to estimate time-varying frequency-selective channels using data-dependent superimposed training (DDST) and a basis expansion model (BEM). The superimposed training consists of the sum of a known sequence and a data-dependent sequence, which is unknown to the receiver. The data-dependent sequence cancels the effects of the unknown data on channel estimation. Symbol detection is perfo...
